Carlos Rivas

Carlos Rivas was an American actor who began in Mexican and Argentinian westerns after being discovered in a bar in Mexico, and he was best known for playing Lun Tha in The King and I (1956). That American debut, opposite Rita Moreno, was the highlight of his screen career, and afterward he was largely reduced to supporting parts. He had co-starring roles in the science fiction films The Beast of Hollow Mountain (1956) and The Black Scorpion (1957), and he played Chingachgook in The Deerslayer (1957). His other credits included Dirty Bob in True Grit and Hernandez in Topaz (1969), and he appeared on television in the western series Cheyenne, in an episode called Johnny Bravo, and in Maverick. Rivas was born in El Paso, Texas, and died in 2003.
