Barry Sobel

Barry Sobel is an American actor and comedian who was raised in Brooklyn, New York and spent the 1980s touring the comedy circuit. He appeared in Rodney Dangerfield's Young Comedians special in 1987, the year he introduced a hip-hop comedy rap act on HBO's Uptown Comedy Express, and he also appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. On screen he had parts in Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise (1987), the 1987 film Blind Date and Punchline (1988), and he worked as comedic advisor to Tom Hanks on the latter. Television work includes a season as a regular on ABC's The Ellen Burstyn Show, a stint on 227, voice roles on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist and The Boondocks, and a co-starring part alongside Wayne Brady on VH1's Vinyl Justice from 1998 to 2000. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2001 for writing on Saturday Night Live.
