Anne Vernon
Biography
Anne Vernon is a retired French film and television actress, born on January 9, 1924. Her screen career began in 1948 with a supporting part in the French-Belgian film The Murdered Model, and she soon moved into leading roles in the British comedy Warning to Wantons and the French drama Thus Finishes the Night. Her only American film was the 1950 noir Shakedown. Through the 1950s she worked across several countries, appearing in Edward and Caroline, which competed at Cannes in 1951, and in Time Bomb (1953) as the wife of Glenn Ford's character. She had a supporting role in General Della Rovere (1959), which won the Golden Lion at Venice. In The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), she played the mother of Catherine Deneuve's character; that musical won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and earned five Academy Award nominations. Her last film came with Therese and Isabelle in 1968, after which she continued in television.
