Alice Lake

Biography

Alice Lake was an American silent film actress who started out as a dancer and first stepped before a camera in 1912. A Brooklyn native, she worked in Mack Sennett's comedy shorts and frequently played the leading lady opposite Roscoe Arbuckle, including in Oh Doctor! (1917) and The Cook (1918), both directed by Arbuckle; Buster Keaton had a leading part in Oh Doctor!. She also played dramas opposite Bert Lytell, among them Blackie's Redemption and The Lion's Den from 1919, and starred in Body and Soul in 1920. Through the 1920s she was the lead actress in several Metro silent features, although her dramatic work met with only limited success. The coming of sound reduced her to supporting parts, and her final film credit came in 1935, a bit part in Frisco Kid. Her screen credits totaled ninety-six.
