Albert Band
Biography
Albert Band was an American filmmaker who worked as both a director and a producer. Born in Paris in 1924, he came to the United States from France before the wartime occupation and finished school in Hollywood. He took an apprenticeship at Warner Bros., where he built contacts and later worked as John Huston's assistant director for The Asphalt Jungle. He also adapted Stephen Crane's story for Huston's The Red Badge of Courage (1951). His debut as both producer and director came with The Young Guns (1956), a Western blended with a juvenile delinquent picture. Near the end of the 1950s, he relocated to Europe, making a series of films that began in Sweden with Face of Fire (1959), drawn from another Crane story, The Monster. He died in 2002.
