Biography

Alan Doyle is a Canadian musician who helped found the folk rock band Great Big Sea after meeting his bandmates at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he studied English. He plays electric and acoustic guitar and bouzouki, and has also played mandolin and banjo. Beyond the band, he has written music for television and film, including the CBC comedy Hatching, Matching and Dispatching in 2005 and the score for Young Triffie's Been Made Away With in 2006, and he collaborated with Russell Crowe on songs and the Crowe/Doyle Songbook Vol. III. On screen he played Allan A'Dayle in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood (2010) and Dingy in Winter's Tale (2014), and he guest starred on Republic of Doyle and Murdoch Mysteries. His solo albums include Boy on Bridge, So Let's Go and A Week at the Warehouse, and he writes music for Son of a Critch. He received the Order of Canada in 2018.

    Alan Doyle produced and co-wrote songs on Russell Crowe's album My Hand, My Heart, and played shows with Crowe and his bands 30 Odd Foot of Grunts and The Ordinary Fear of God. In 2011 they released The Crowe/Doyle Songbook Vol.III.
