Plot summary
The Newfoundland Regiment joins a massive British-led First World War offensive on the Somme on July 1, 1916. At Beaumont Hamel, the regiment is nearly wiped out; only 110 of 780 soldiers survive the day. To mark the centenary of that tragedy, a documentary tells the regiment's story through an unusual reenactment. The filmmakers recruit descendants of the soldiers who fought there and invite them to relive their ancestors' experiences in trenches built specifically for the production.
