First role
Zmed's first major acting job was Johnny in the national touring company of Grease. He went on to appear in the Broadway musical three times, twice as Danny, and at 40 he played Danny again in the 1995 Broadway revival.
Early training
Zmed was one of Chicago's top high school performers and appeared on a local TV show. He then moved to the Goodman School of Drama and started voice studies at the Chicago Conservatory of Music.
A role that slipped away
After ABC canceled T.J. Hooker in 1985, Zmed took the host job on Dance Fever for its last two seasons, succeeding Deney Terrio. That kept him from coming back to T.J. Hooker when CBS revived it.
