Plot summary
In 15th century Europe, a gypsy witch traps the hobgoblin Rumpelstiltskin inside a stone effigy. He remains trapped for a thousand years, unless a wish concerning a child is made. In present-day Los Angeles, police officer Russell Stewart is shot and killed, leaving his pregnant wife Shelley a widow. Shelley, her newborn Johnny and her friend Hildy visit an antique shop owned by Matilda, which holds the stone. Shelley buys it and, at home, wishes her dead husband could meet their son. That wish frees Rumpelstiltskin, who demands Johnny as payment.

- Mark Jones and producer Michael Prescott had been in pre-production on Leprechaun 2, but when Rumpelstiltskin was greenlit they took producer credits on Leprechaun 2 and chose to make Rumpelstiltskin instead.
