Plot summary
Anthony and John are brothers growing up in Rockaway under a father who beats them. John, the younger of the two, watches his mother take that violence as well. Over the summer of 1994 the pair fall in with Sal, Billy, Dom and Brian, four boys they meet at a basketball court, and the group passes its days playing baseball and following John's fascination with New York Knicks star John Starks. One night, when their father rages over an empty refrigerator during a Knicks game, the friends side with the brothers. When their mother decides she will move away, Anthony and John begin to work out a plan of revenge against their father.
