Plot summary
In Aylesbury in 1978, John Otway performs Beware of the Flowers (Cos I'm Sure They're Gonna Get You, Yeah) outdoors for a crowd of more than 20,000. The film then moves to 2012, when he speaks to pupils at his former school about surviving in the music business. Otway, an English singer-songwriter, recalls a television appearance on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test where he climbed onto guitarist Wild Willy Barrett's amplifier; it toppled and he fell. That performance pushed his single Cor Baby That's Really Free up the UK chart and won him a deal with Polydor Records. Seeking another hit, he put out vocal-free versions of Frightened and Scared and attempted further publicity stunts. Devoted fans campaign on his behalf to push his records into the charts.
