Plot summary
In the closing days of World War II, Pietro Lamberti, known as Isola, deals in contraband in Fascist Milan, raising money to leave the city with Yvonne, his girlfriend and a nightclub singer. She is also the mistress of Achille Borsalino, a fascist minister. Isola, Marcello and Amedeo get hold of a coded fascist order to move a large stash of looted treasure to Switzerland, and the three decide to take it themselves. The treasure lies in a protected quarter of Milan called the Black Zone. The group brings in Hessa, the anarchist bomber Molotov and Fabbri, a former racer, and aims to finish the robbery within a week. Borsalino stops Isola as he leaves a meeting with Yvonne and tells him to keep away from her.
