Plot summary
Noam Chomsky makes the case that the distance between the wealthiest Americans and everyone else was widened on purpose. Talking across four years of interviews, he sets out the principles he sees behind a half-century of policy, each one moving money and power toward the top. The majority, in his account, has paid for it. He describes a middle class in decline and a democracy that no longer serves most of the people living under it, and he calls those losses a possible legacy of the era. Beside the argument, he looks back on his life of activism and his years of political participation.
