Plot summary
Ahmed Karaga is a young man in Sarajevo as World War II begins. Fifty years later his son, Tarik Karaga, lives in the same city through the Siege of Sarajevo and has written a screenplay about his father's youth, which he sends to a literary competition in France before war comes to the former Yugoslavia. Both stories are coming-of-age tales: Ahmed goes out with his girlfriend Eva Bebek and his friend Marko Kalaba, while Tarik spends time with his best friend Miro Jovanović, whose mother is Desa Jovanović, and his girlfriend Alma Dizdarević. Duke Mišo, a commander of the local Serbian forces, is Tarik's neighbor.
