Trailer

Plot summary

New Caledonia is a French overseas territory, and Ouvéa Island lies within it. In April 1988, Kanak separatists there take thirty policemen hostage. France sends three hundred soldiers to the territory to restore order. Philippe Legorjus, a captain in the GIGN, goes to negotiate with Alphonse Dianou, who heads the group holding the policemen. Dianou, the army, the separatist movement's leadership and the French government in Paris all pursue different aims, which makes the talks harder. The crisis occurs during a presidential election, and political concerns shape how the authorities respond.
