Plot summary
Astronomer Professor Amamori has found a tenth planet inside the solar system, and calculated that it will strike Earth on 9 September 1999. He prepares a defense against it, with help from Hajime, his nephew, and from his secretary Yukino Yayoi. Yayoi holds knowledge of the intruder that she keeps to herself: the planet is LaMetal, it crosses Earth every thousand years and brings chaos, and its advanced civilization enslaves the human survivors. She is a citizen of LaMetal, the Millennial Queen, who returns to Earth each millennium to ready the passing. Though she comes from LaMetal, she has come to love Earth and its people, and she means to keep the planet from being destroyed.
