Plot summary
Zenigata inspects the corpse in Transylvania and finds it is a decoy; Arsène Lupin III is alive and gone. Convinced Lupin will raid the Giza Necropolis next, Zenigata proves right: Lupin, Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII take the Philosopher's Stone. Fujiko Mine requested the Stone, and in Paris she steals it from Lupin for a mysterious client who calls himself Mamo. Mamo finds the Stone is a fake Lupin made, and his forces attack the gang while his henchman Flinch destroys their hideout. Jigen and Goemon blame Fujiko, and Lupin promises to give up his pursuit of her to calm them. With nowhere left to go, the three head toward the ocean.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo (1978)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film was given a budget of 500 million yen, comparable to major live-action films at the time and unheard of for an animated production.
- 62,000 cel sheets were used in the animation, compared to 5,000 cels used in an average half-hour TV animation.
- Oversized cels were filmed in a modified VistaVision process called "Anime Vision", which allowed for a brighter and sharper picture for theatrical projection than a TV production.
- Special Presidential Aide Starky and Special Agent Gordon are parodies of Henry Kissinger and G. Gordon Liddy; the first three English dubs renamed Starky "Gissinger".
- Footage from the film's first English dub, along with scenes from The Castle of Cagliostro, was used by Stern Electronics under license from TMS to make the Dragon's Lair-style laserdisc video game Cliff Hanger.
- Although Mamo's name was meant to be spelled "Mamaux" in English, the Streamline release popularized the "Mamo" spelling.
