Plot summary
In Qin dynasty China, the First Emperor sends out young men and maidens to help his alchemists in the search for the elixir of immortality and has an army of terracotta warriors built. General Meng Tianfang falls in love with Dong'er, one of the maidens at court, a match the palace does not permit. She secretly passes him the elixir the alchemists have found, and the emperor condemns them both. Meng is sealed inside clay as a terracotta warrior. More than two thousand years later, in the 1930s, a film crew shooting on location uncovers part of the emperor's tomb, and Meng wakes to a changed world, where the struggling actress Zhu Lili reminds him of Dong'er. Looters and thugs want the tomb's contents.
