Pressure Cooker (2008) on Netflix

Plot summary

For the students in Wilma Stephenson's culinary arts course at Frankford High, in working-class Northeast Philadelphia, the classroom runs on boot camp discipline. She is infamously blunt, drilling them in cooking and expecting responsible behavior, and she cares about getting the best from young people who have few advantages, hoping to make a difference in their lives. In the year before, she says, eleven seniors from her classes collected culinary scholarships worth over three-quarters of a million dollars. Over the school year her students learn and expand their abilities, then enter cutthroat competitions, each hoping to win enough scholarship money to pursue a college education.
