Plot summary
Tony, the owner of a small fantastic film video shop, has found out that at times reality can defy science-fiction. The time has come to embark on a trip to a place nobody has ever been to before.

- The character Felix Cadecq in Carlos Atanes' film is an homage to science-fiction author Philip K. Dick: Cadecq's speech follows Dick's controversial 1977 address at the science-fiction festival in Metz, in which Dick claimed to live in a "programmed reality".
- Part of Próxima was shot in the Corta Atalaya open-pit mine in the province of Huelva; according to the production company, it was the first feature film to shoot scenes at the bottom of that mine.
- After the exoplanet Proxima Centauri b was discovered in 2016, director Carlos Atanes launched a petition proposing that a future geographical feature of the planet be named after it, because of the similarities between the planet and the world shown in the film.
