Plot summary
At Angel Beach High School, Edward "Pee Wee" Morris and his friends join the drama club's Shakespeare festival. Pee Wee boasts about his night with Wendy Williams, who is cast as Juliet, and the gang befriends Johnny Henry, a Seminole student playing Romeo. Word around school about Wendy bothers Pee Wee, who promises to go after any boy who badmouths her. Coach Beulah Balbricker calls Shakespeare obscene and brings in Reverend Bubba Flavel, whose congregation pressures the school to cancel the show. Flavel objects to a Native American Romeo kissing a white Juliet, and he collects petitions from voters. The students ask Principal Floyd J. Carter and County Commissioner Bob Gebhardt for help in keeping the festival alive.
