Plot summary
Southern Methodist University is a small private school in Dallas whose football team, the Mustangs, owns the best record in college football from 1981 to 1984, carried by its Pony Express backfield. As the middle of the decade nears, the program comes apart. Winning becomes the only measure that counts, and the university hands more and more authority over football to oil barons and real estate tycoons in the city. NCAA rules are broken often and openly, and the greed and corruption of Dallas reach the football field.
