Pioneers in Skirts (2020) on Netflix

Plot summary

Ashley Maria built a career she had trained for, with a graduate degree in film and awards to her name, but the directing jobs she wanted did not come. Female colleagues described similar obstacles, and many said they felt burned out, asking what they had done wrong. Research she gathers indicates that women tend to bring more ambition than men to their first jobs, then lose confidence within roughly two years of college, whether or not they marry or have children. Ashley broadens her search beyond her own industry, traveling the United States to speak with other women and with researchers who study the problem. She also follows a robotics team of teenage girls, their fathers, and a young mother hoping for a promotion.
