Plot summary
Yutaka "Peco" Hoshino and Makoto "Smile" Tsukimoto are members of the table tennis club at Katase High. Peco loves the game, while Smile keeps to himself and rarely smiles, which is how his clubmates came to call him Smile. Smile has the greater natural talent, and he treats the sport as a way of passing the time, often letting weaker players, Peco among them, beat him. Manabu "Demon" Sakuma has known the two since primary school. Tsujido Academy brings Kǒng "China" Wéngé from Shanghai to beat Ryūichi "Dragon" Kazama, a competitor looking for a worthy opponent.
