Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Penguin's Memory: A Tale of Happiness (1985)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The Suntory canned-beer commercials that led to the film showed a penguin singing a song whose singer and title were left uncredited, and the guessing game over who it was became a big topic; it turned out to be top idol Seiko Matsuda singing 'SWEET MEMORIES', the B-side of 'Garasu no Ringo', and the record's hit brought the penguin character more attention and more commercials.
- Manga artist Motofumi Kobayashi said on his X account that he had grown tired of the human Vietnam War, and that the Penguin's Memory anime shown in the commercials at the time was his hint: the American forces became rabbits and Indochina cats.
- According to original author Takeo Nagasawa, remarks by the canned-beer copywriter Yuichi Watanabe — that he had wandered in his youth and had wanted to become a librarian — were the inspiration for the story.
