Plot summary
Somewhere in the dystopian Middle East, grand houses that once housed the wealthy are now homes of the city's most-dangerous criminals. An undercover cop, his ex-con, and others will take down the drug lord who killed his own father.
A Middle Eastern city where wealthy people used to live many years ago has now become a den of hooligans and ruffians. From there, they started black businesses and drug smuggling in many countries. they belong to the underworld gangsters, an undercover cop posing as a thief and living with the criminal, Smuggling drugs goes on at whose behest and by whose order it is smuggled had to find out to take down that drug peddler. The one who killed his father also committed this crime.

- The song "Besharam Rang" drew protests for allegedly promoting obscenity after Deepika Padukone wore a saffron bikini; Madhya Pradesh's then home minister Narottam Mishra called it objectionable and warned his government might consider banning the film, and Shah Rukh Khan's effigies and posters were burnt in cities across the state.
- On 29 December 2022 the Central Board of Film Certification asked the makers of Pathaan to change parts of the film, including its songs, citing culture and faith; minor changes were made but the saffron dress scene in "Besharam Rang" was kept.
- On 4 January 2023 members of Bajrang Dal tore down Pathaan posters at an Ahmedabad multiplex and warned against releasing the film; Gujarat's multiplex body wrote to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who promised protection and told police chiefs to guard theatres.
- Pathaan's shoot paused for two days on 12 April 2021, but after crew members were reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 and Maharashtra went into lockdown, further schedules were postponed; filming resumed on 25 June at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai.
- Pathaan was shot in locations across India, Afghanistan, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Russia, Italy and France, and became the first Indian film to be shot in Siberia's Lake Baikal.
- Pathaan was released theatrically in Bangladesh on 12 May 2023, becoming the first Hindi film to be released in that country.
- Pathaan overtook Dangal as the highest-grossing Hindi film in the US with over $13.4 million, became the first Indian film to earn over £3 million in the UK, and was the first Hindi film to gross over $100 million without a China release.
