Plot summary
On the caravan road from Baghdad to Damascus in 1823, Sarah, the daughter of a British merchant, and David, the son of American missionaries, are among the travelers. At an oasis, raiders led by a slaver known as the Jackal fall on the party; he means to take Sarah into his harem. David, Sarah and her servant Geoffrey escape, while the others, David's parents included, are killed. Geoffrey goes off to seek help, and the two teenagers are left alone. The Jackal has not given up on Sarah, and to get away from him they head west across a desert of heat, scarce water and wild animals.

- Willie Aames and Phoebe Cates both felt the script called for too much nudity; they said producer Robert Lantos went back to Canada and used somebody else in the shots, and that the version they approved was not the released film. Lantos replied that the final cut was his and the distributor's decision and that 99% of it was what Aames and Cates shot.
- Willie Aames promoted Paradise despite his misgivings and called it "a damn good film", but Phoebe Cates refused to have anything to do with promotion, such as screenings and parties. According to Aames, Cates was really upset by the film and worried it would kill her career.
- Paradise marked the acting debut of Phoebe Cates, who was 17 during filming; her starring role included fully nude scenes and she was also picked to sing the movie's theme song.
