Pageant (2008) on Netflix

Plot summary

The documentary follows five men as they compete in the 34th Miss Gay America pageant, held in Memphis in 2004. The contest is a female impersonation competition where participants must be free of female hormones and have had no cosmetic surgery below the neck. Each contestant has already won a state or regional preliminary. Fifty finalists gather for three days of competition. They face a private interview with five judges, an evening gown category, a three-minute solo talent number, and a seven-minute talent performance with props allowed. The final night is at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, where the top ten compete again in evening gown and talent and answer an on-stage question. The film also shows the men's families and their lives away from the stage.
