Plot summary
Ben Livingston has booked the chalet at Clara Lake where he and Cara Reneau met, for the anniversary of that first trip. Cara has accepted a place in a graduate program at Berkeley, and the two have kept their relationship going across the distance. They invite Cara's friend Megan Marquant, a magazine project manager, hoping she and Sean, Ben's friend who works as the resort's doctor, will reconnect. Cara must sign off on the last version of her mystery novel before it is published, and Ben is meeting Porter Mason, an investor he needs for his snowboard company. When Cara finds a jewelry receipt, she takes it as a sign that Ben is about to propose.
