Plot summary
Months before the 1992 Summer Olympics open in Barcelona, the Spanish men's national water polo team trains to compete on home ground, where it is not expected to make much of an impression. The squad's new coach, Dragan Matutinović, runs the players through training methods so harsh that they earn the team's animosity and threaten to incapacitate more than one of them. Pedro García Aguado and Manel Estiarte, the two leaders of the side, hold opposing personalities and fall into infighting. Pedro is also dealing with a substance addiction, and Manel is grieving the suicide of his sister.
