Plot summary
Siri grew up in rural Andhra Pradesh with her elder brother Sivarama Krishna, who raised her after their father left the family and their mother died. Now grown and trained as an engineer, she is invited by Lalitha, her childhood friend, to help prepare for Lalitha's wedding. Lalitha's cousin Santhosh, raised in London by wealthy parents, arrives at the same time. Siri finds his teasing irritating, then comes to like him, and the two agree to marry. Santhosh's mother Janaki refuses, because Siri is poor, and has promised him to Dolly, whose father JP is a business partner of her brother. Janaki humiliates Siri and Sivarama Krishna at the wedding. Santhosh will not go back to London, and follows Siri to her village to ask her brother for her hand, but Sivarama Krishna does not trust him.
