Plot summary
Billy Tipton was an American jazz musician of the twentieth century, and the story told about him after his death was a tabloid tale. No Ordinary Man sets that account beside a different one, gathering contemporary trans artists, writers and performers to consider his career and his legacy and to argue with the way he was described once he was gone. Principal photography was finished before the COVID-19 pandemic, so the editing and post-production work was done remotely, and the film premiered at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival. It won Best Canadian Film at the Inside Out Film and Video Festival and was named to the Toronto festival's year-end Canada's Top Ten list.
