Plot summary
Bill Nugent teaches anthropology, and Carla Thomas comes to him convinced that a Bigfoot is responsible for her father's death in Northern California. Police treat the idea as a hoax, though the region has seen disappearances and violent deaths. Carla asks to join the trip Bill is planning with four students, Roy, Pete, Gary, and Linda, to prove the creature exists. They travel by boat along a river and camp on the property of Lou Carlson, an elderly man who says he witnessed Bigfoot. Lou avoids their questions until Roy gives him alcohol, then tells them to look for Wanda, a recluse who lives deeper in the woods and is thought to know more.

- Night of the Demon was listed as a "video nasty" by the BBFC and stayed banned in the UK until January 1994, when VIPCO resubmitted it and the board passed it with an 18 certificate after 1 minute and 41 seconds of gore was cut. The biker's castration and a student's intestines used as a flail were removed completely.
- After Night of the Demon fared badly at a Los Angeles film festival, producer Jim L. Ball shot extra gore-filled sequences and retrofitted them as flashbacks that push the anthropology students to hunt Bigfoot. Director James C. Wasson said he had no involvement in those scenes and his original cut was much tamer.

The film's final sequence, in which the Bigfoot slaughters the remaining students in the cabin, was shot in a makeshift studio built in producer Jim L. Ball's garage in Los Angeles.
