Plot summary
In 2001 American Samoa's national team was beaten 31-0 by Australia, the worst result in the history of international football, and defeats have followed ever since. The side still turns out, and its goal is a place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. To change its fortunes, the Football Federation American Samoa hires Thomas Rongen, a coach born in the Netherlands who works in the United States, and gives him three weeks to train the squad and to bring in players based overseas before the qualifiers in the OFC region. Jaiyah Saelua, a faʻafafine who joined the team in 2003, is the first transgender player to take part in a World Cup qualifier.
