Plot summary
The grandfather of two young siblings runs a kung fu school in Japanese-occupied Taiwan, where they arrive after fleeing Shanghai. Across the island, the head of a Japanese karate school wants every rival school brought under his control, and the grandfather's school is one of them. A Lung is a young thief with no interest in kung fu. He runs afoul of the Japanese, who beat him, and the students of the grandfather's school take him in. When the authorities move against that school and its teaching, A Lung decides he cannot stand aside, and he turns to the martial arts he once avoided.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about New Fist of Fury (1976)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film was the first to use Chan's stage name Sing Lung, meaning "becoming a dragon" — the name by which the actor is still known today in Asia.
- New Fist of Fury was part of director Lo Wei's attempt to market Jackie Chan as a new Bruce Lee, and it contained none of the comedy that later became Chan's trademark.
- It gave Jackie Chan his first starring role in a widely released film; his earlier starring role, in Little Tiger of Canton in 1973, had only a limited release.
- To cash in on Jackie Chan's success with The Young Master, the film was re-edited and re-released in 1980, losing 40 minutes of footage and gaining a Cantonese soundtrack.
