Plot summary
Carol Williams is a dancer whose career is about to take off. She is engaged to Guy Richards, her dance partner and choreographer, and the two of them work together. Then polio leaves her unable to walk. Guy wants to see her through the illness, but Carol would rather go through her recovery on her own. Her father brings her to the Kabat-Kaiser Institute, where she gets to know other patients who are also in recovery.

- While directing Never Fear, Ida Lupino fell and broke her ankle, and she directed some of the film from a wheelchair.
- Ida Lupino and her husband Collier Young raised the film's $151,000 budget from their own money and that of friends rather than approach the major studios, and RKO then gave them a nine-month contract as an independent production unit.
- Ida Lupino had contracted polio in 1934 and suffered the same fevers and pains as the Carol Williams character, along with the same fear that she would not walk again.
- Never Fear gave Ida Lupino her first directing credit and Hugh O'Brian his first credited film role, though a New York Times item said Frank Cavett had originally been intended to direct.
- The rehabilitation scenes were shot at the Kabat-Kaiser Institute in Santa Monica, California, where many of the actors were actual rehab patients and a wheelchair square dance featured real wheelchair dancers from the institute.
