Plot summary
Nina, a half-Indian girl, is a government ward: her father left before she was born, and her mother has died. Chris Morrell, her guardian, has raised her. An oil strike makes her mother's Indian land lease worth $50,000, but Morrell can only claim the money if he finds Nina's father to sign guardianship papers. Sam Black, the outlaw ringleader, learns of the lease and sends his gang to take the girl. Morrell gets away with Nina and starts her toward the ranch of his friend Bud Moore, staying behind to draw Black's men off and scatter their horses. Worn out by the chase, he collapses near a brook, and Nina rides on alone.
