Plot summary
Param lives in a village in Punjab, where he and his friends attend a Dusshera celebration and he meets Jasmeet. Educated and ambitious, she wants to work, but her grandfather and older brother refuse to allow it. Param courts her over several meetings, and at a friend's wedding the two admit their feelings. He even finds her a part-time job in a jewelry store, until her grandfather learns of it and starts looking for another groom. Param's father sends a marriage proposal, and Jasmeet's grandfather agrees on one condition: she will not work after the wedding. At the wedding ceremony, a confrontation involving Param's father ends with a vow that Param will never get a visa, and a year of applications brings the couple nothing while Jasmeet still longs for London.
