Naked Alibi (1954) on Netflix

Plot summary

Lieutenant Fred Parks questions Albert Willis, a drunken baker, about a series of robberies on the city's east side. Willis denies any part in them, then loses his temper and punches Parks, who strikes back. Chief Joseph E. Conroy walks in and hears Willis threaten revenge, but Willis walks free because a councilman, Edgar Goodwin, is looking into charges of police brutality. Willis goes home to his wife Helen and slips out again that night. Hours later Parks is shot dead beside a police call box. Joe heads the investigation and fixes on Willis, though the only proof he can offer is the bullets taken from the body, which came from a Mauser pistol.
