Plot summary
A dying patriarch wants his land and wealth kept out of the hands of his grasping brother, Yu Yung-Sheng. Cheng Tai-nun, a young champion of the martial arts and a loyal servant of the old man, agrees to wed her elderly master so the property will rest safely with her, to be handed on to the nephew he chose. When he dies she inherits, and she travels to Canton to live with that nephew and his son, Yu Tao, a student newly home from Hong Kong. She holds to the customs of the provinces; he has taken up modern, Western ways, and their first meeting sets off a clash. Yu Tao invites his new great aunt to a costume party, hoping she will embarrass herself in public.
