Hou Hsiao
Biography
Hsiao Hou is a Chinese actor and stunt performer known for Shaw Brothers martial arts films. Born in Henan, China, in 1958, he trained in Chinese opera under Fan Kuk-Fa as a child. Lau Kar-Leung, also credited as Liu Chia-Liang, discovered him in 1978, and Hsiao later became the director's disciple. His acrobatic and martial skills earned him a contract with Shaw Brothers. He became best known for the lead role in Mad Monkey Kung Fu (1979), playing Monkey, an apprentice to a crippled kung fu master. He also led the cult hit My Young Auntie (1981) as a westernized teenager. His credits include Cat Vs. Rat, Fake Ghost Catchers, and the role of Fong Sai Yok in Disciples of the 36th Chamber. He later worked as a stunt coordinator and action director, with Shaolin Avengers (1994) among his credits, and played a disfigured swordsman in Iron Monkey (1993). He made a brief appearance in One Night in Mongkok (2004).
