Plot summary
Kim Bong-doo is a young teacher at a Seoul elementary school who arrives after his students, drinks instead of writing lesson plans, and coaxes parents into paying him to favor their children. When he is caught, the complaints against him send him to a branch school in a remote Gangwon Province village, where cell phones are useless and the nearest store is far away. Only five students attend. The villagers pay him in vegetables and fruit rather than money, and an old man named Choi forces him to give lessons in the Korean alphabet. Bored, Kim settles on a plan: move all five students to schools in Seoul, which would close the village school for good. He begins an after-school program to develop each child's talents.
