Plot summary
The narrator's father left China in 1966, walking seven days and six nights and then swimming four hours to Macau to escape communism. He told the story to his children for years, and his son paid it little attention. The son has now returned to China with him. It is one Chinese-American family's immigration story, in a country where every family has somebody who left a homeland behind for a better life.
