Plot summary
In his village, Rhubarb Vaselino is of little use to his family, who complain about how useless he has become since he took up with his new friend Sapo. Sent out to fetch flour, the two of them drag the sack home on a rope and stop at the bullring, where they line up with the men hoping to work as matadors. The first volunteer is carried off on a stretcher, and the one after him gets the same treatment. Sapo goes next and does no better. Announcing himself as Don Vaseline, Rhubarb steps into the ring after his friend, and the bulls he faces there win him a name in the village. The purse he takes home changes his mother's mood, and an invitation to fight in Madrid follows.
