Plot summary
A frantic call from her mother pulls Artemis, twenty-four and single, out of her life in Paris and back to Athens. Her father, Paris, is in the hospital with a debilitating illness and needs someone to care for him, and Artemis resents being asked. She grew up estranged from him, and the summer she spends in Athens looking after him turns into a slow reacquaintance between the two of them. Iakovos, a friend of Paris, has been a familiar presence in the household since Artemis was a child.
