Plot summary
In 2015, Stergios is a middle-aged fisherman who lives near Doiran Lake, on the stretch of Greece's northern border that faces North Macedonia. He is deep in debt and lives there with his wife and daughter. For a hefty fee he begins carrying migrants across the lake. His wife Maria keeps house and attends church as a devout parishioner, seeking truth in God's Word. Their daughter Anastasia is trying to define a life of her own in surroundings she finds oppressive. Several European countries had closed their borders that year, and hundreds of refugees and immigrants were trapped near Greece's northern frontier.
