Plot summary
Greece has filed a claim for reparations over Nazi crimes committed during World War II, and Caroline Martin is the lawyer making the German government's case against it. The claim is worth billions, and her visit to Kalavryta is part of her investigation of it. Kalavryta is the village German troops invaded in 1943 and where they carried out a massacre that December. There she meets Nikolaos Andreou, one of the survivors still alive. Their meeting was not arranged by either of them. He was in the village when the killings took place, and he tells her about the events of those years.
