Plot summary

Seeking an escape from his humble English beginnings, Stan Brock heads to South America as a teenager and works on an enormous cattle ranch in the Amazon. An American TV producer discovers him in the late 1960s, and he becomes co-host of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, handling anacondas on camera. A bush pilot and naturalist, he founds Remote Area Medical, a nonprofit run by volunteers that offers free medical, dental and vision care. It starts out flying medical supplies to poorer countries, and later sets up pop-up clinics across the United States for people without health coverage. Brock takes a vow of poverty and sleeps on his office floor at the organization's headquarters.
