Plot summary
Maya is a girl on Earth who meets a visitor nobody else can see. The visitor, Gubang, belongs to a class of star-boys whose research spaceship has brought them to Outdoor School to look at life on Earth. Shiny badges called snurke keep the class invisible to everyone around them, and the visit is meant for watching rather than taking part. Gubang finds that rule hard to keep. He makes contact with Maya and gives her a snurko of her own, so that she can see him. The friendship brings complications both in the spaceship and on Earth, where the class is not supposed to be seen at all.
