Plot summary
In 1939 Max and Léon are among the thousands of young men called up as the war begins. Both are lazy and fond of a good time, and neither of them understands at first what such a mobilization means. Their one wish is to avoid the battle zone and get back home, whatever it takes. The men in command, however, have no intention of letting them go.
